History

The original idea was to give bands from Prostějov a place to perform, which was not possible after the closure of the Apollo club. As soon as the opportunity to use the courtyard of the Prostějov Castle arose, organizer Lukáš Chlup immediately rented it from the city. The city had already placed a stage there permanently for the summer months. Chlup organized the first edition of the festival in 2022 on his own. He contacted his friends in the music industry and local bands.

The success of the festival convinced him that it was a valuable event, so he expanded the second edition in 2023. He invited more well-known Czech bands, including TRAGEDIS. After the second edition, Chlup assembled an organizational team. Jakub Švančar joined to handle international contacts, and Markéta Mazalová became the live manager. This allowed the festival to grow even further, and on August 31, 2024, it hosted Blaze Bayley, formerly of Iron Maiden.

The Rock For Your Shock team immediately made use of the newly gained experience with foreign bands, and for the 4th edition, two international acts were confirmed – metalcore band Vicious Rain from Switzerland and Austrian band Prototyper. Other notable names included Hentai Corporation, Forrest Jump, and Exorcizphobia. In total, on August 23, 2025, eight rock and metal bands performed at Rock For Your Shock.

After the conclusion of the fourth edition, the Rock For Your Shock team announced that the upcoming fifth anniversary edition would feature a special line-up under the subtitle Heroines of Metal. The festival will take place on August 22, 2026, and will be dedicated mainly to women and the celebration of female strength. There are only two exceptions. The first is Abused & Neglected, fronted by Lucas Style (stage name of Lukáš Chlup), who will open the festival. The second is S.O.P., a long-standing act from Prostějov. Otherwise, the festival will showcase bands that can proudly boast female frontwomen. After thirteen years, the vampire legend Theatres des Vampires from Italy will return to the Czech Republic, along with the Italian nu-metal powerhouse Exilia. Also joining the line-up are the all-female Austrian band Vulvarine and Slovak group Royal Question. Representing the Czech Republic will be Emerald Shine.
